Dr. Busino earned his undergraduate degree summa cum laude at Union College and his medical degree magna cum laude at Albany Medical College in 1975. He completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Albany Medical Center Hospitals in 1978. Following his training, Dr. Busino worked as an emergency physician and then associate director of the Department of Medicine at Ellis Hospital until 1982, when he entered private practice. During his tenure at Ellis Hospital he was director of the Chronic Disease Care program at the hospital, which was supported by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation of Princeton, New Jersey. He also was director of the Internal Medicine Ambulatory Care clinic at Ellis from 1978 until the mid-1980s. During that period he was directly involved in the training of medical residents. Since 1982 he has been practicing general internal medicine in Niskayuna, New York.
He has been board certified in Internal Medicine since 1978 and is Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Albany Medical College. He is an attending physician in Medicine at Ellis Hospital and a consulting physician in Medicine at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital. He is a member of the Medical Society the State of New York and the Schenectady County Medical Society. He is past-president of the Schenectady County Medical Society and a former delegate to the Medical Society of the State of New York. Since 1991 Dr. Busino has held the position of Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha. He currently practices general internal medicine and geriatrics on a full-time basis.
During the late 1990s he was a founding member of CapitalCare Medical Group, which combined 14 private, primary care practices (including internal medicine, family medicine and pediatrics) into a large independent medical group and continues to grow in the region. He was president of CapitalCare Medical Group from 1998 until 2007 and continues as a member of the Board of Managers and as Laboratory Director.
Dr. Busino continues to be active in the medical community, particularly at Ellis Hospital. He is a member of the Planning Committee of the Board of Trustees, as well as the Medical-Dental Executive Committee and the Primary Care Committee. During 2014 he was an active member of the Transitional Work Group to develop an Accountable Care Organization, established to join physicians and hospitals (Ellis Hospital and St. Peter's Hospital) into a Clinically Integrated Network and to apply for participation as a Medicare Shared Savings Program ACO. Dr. Busino was elected chairman of the Board of Innovative Health Alliance of New York (iHANY).
